When Mimi at Heart Music and Ali started Montes "One-List" on yahoo I was member #28 if I recall. At that time, I was catching Montes shows 3, 4 and 5 times a week around San Antonio. That was in 1996. I was truly inspired. I taught myself how to play in probably the most frustrating way, watching Monte, then trying to figure out what he was doing. Still hasn't happened, but I did learn to play.
I now have a band that is 3 years old and it's no secret, Monte is my number one influence and inspiration. Check it out: www.confusingminerva.com Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters said something to the effect that it's the natural progression, to go from being the biggest fan of music, to being a musician. You love it so much, you have to do it yourself.
That was me. Even now, 12 years later, I still catch every Monte show I can. I've been to shows all over Texas, in Louisiana, San Diego, Los Angeles and way down in the Caribbean on Delberts McClintons cruise.
For me, it's always been about the music. I've never thought of myself a "Montiac". I've known some Montiacs that were more into "being" Montiacs and their own Montiac status while dissing Montes music, and Monte along the way.
Whatever direction Monte chooses to follow with his music is his prerogative, it's his path to follow. I'm just here to listen and appreciate. He is following his dream, living it and only owes it to himself and that dream, to live it with passion.
And please, no discussion of "When Is Monte Going To Make It And Be Successful?" Look around ya'll!
